The need for a water management system

The amount of drinkable water on the planet is rapidly decreasing. Thus, it has become critical for humans to save water so future generations can survive

What makes Earth unique is the existence of humankind, which in turn is possible because of one essential element—water. With an imbalance in the distribution of freshwater and other environmental issues, it has become essential, even urgent, to conserve this natural resource. The application of Internet of Things (IoT) offers a technology-backed approach to tackle the issue.

Water bodies make up three fourths of the Earth’s surface. The only thing that distinguishes it from other planets in the solar system is water. Water is the most important natural resource, without which humans cannot survive. The world’s freshwater supply is extremely limited, which is why it is vital to conserve it.

The global distribution of freshwater is not perfect. Many areas continue to lack a sufficient supply of freshwater. People all over the world are dying as a result of a lack of water or drinking contaminated water. Children are the most vulnerable to diseases caused by the consumption of contaminated water.

The amount of drinkable water on the planet is rapidly decreasing. Thus, it has become critical for humans to save water so future generations can survive. Water conservation is critical to the survival of life on Earth. Industrial waste should be disposed in a way that does not contaminate nearby bodies of water.

Previously, we had no way of tracking water supply. Residential societies and group housing societies had no way of tracking the amount of water used in their projects or the number of liters of water wasted each year. However, with technological advancements and Artificial Intelligence (AI), smart systems that can not only track the amount of water in the water tank but also stop the overflow of water have been developed.

Water Management Dashboard

Radius Synergies International has created a smart system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) technology that can track the water level in the society’s tanks remotely and provide real-time updates to the facility management. If the water level falls below a certain level, the water motor automatically turns on and if it rises above a certain level, the smart system automatically turns off the motor. Thus, it saves energy and water at the same time.

More smart systems that can track water usage and reduce waste are needed. We require smart systems that can monitor the level of contamination in rivers that supply drinking water to the public. To avoid contamination of river water, lakes and streams, industrial expansion should be prohibited near rivers.

The main challenge in doing so is that developing countries such as India and China will have to compromise their growth rates, in contrast to the main culprits of increased pollution levels worldwide—developed nations like the US, UK and Germany.
